Issue Two:

Winter 2026

About Us

Concrete Harbor Magazine is a student magazine that publishes original work by students aged 13–26. We offer a rare opportunity for young artists to be featured in a high-quality magazine and introduced to a large widespread audience.

Submissions are competitive—we aim to spotlight the very best work from emerging creatives with something urgent to say. We do encourage simultaneous submissions to other publications. This increases your chances of being published, and your voice deserves every opportunity to be heard.

Submission Guidelines

We seek work that responds to the world—this is broad by design, and can look like anything from grappling with personal turning points to confronting broader societal challenges. We do, however, encourage submissions that engage with current events and social issues. Do send us work that’s weird and bold. We want to be moved, challenged, and surprised.

  • We only accept original, previously unpublished work.

  • If selected, we require First Serial Rights, and after publication, all rights revert back to the creator. We do ask that Concrete Harbor Magazine is credited in any subsequent republication.

  • If submitting simultaneously to other places, please email us if your work is accepted elsewhere.

  • Due to the high volume of submissions, our response time may take a while. Feel free to query if you haven’t heard back after four weeks.

  • All submissions are read blindly, and we offer general comments on every piece we receive.

  • Artist statements are encouraged, but not required.

  • Submissions that do not follow our rules will be disqualified.

  • Please email or DM us with any questions.

Art:

We accept both 2D and 3D visual art. You may submit up to five pieces per submission.

Please submit a well-lit, high-resolution PNG file of your work. Portrait orientation is generally preferred for 2D works, but not required. Include the title in the file name, but do not include your name on the artwork itself or in the file name, as all submissions are reviewed blindly.

When photographing your work, take your photo near a window and try to keep the lighting even. Hold your camera parallel to the piece to prevent distortion. Most modern phones will be sufficient—just make sure the image is clear and in focus. Do make sure your piece fills the frame.

For themed photography collections, please submit a PDF with the photographs in order. For performance art (dance, music, theater, etc.) or film, please submit a video. Please email us first if you want to submit another form of visual art not previously mentioned. Artists selected for publication will receive $25 per piece (a collection counts as one piece).

We accept all forms of poetry, and we especially welcome experimental and genre-blurring work. There is no line limit, and you may submit up to five poems per submission (unless submitting a themed collection).

Each poem should be uploaded as a separate PDF, with Times New Roman font and double spacing. Include the title and genre in the file name, and on the top of the document. Do not include your name within the document or in the file name, as all submissions are reviewed blindly.

If you would like to submit a themed collection, please submit a PDF of the poems in order, along with a title. Poets selected for publication will receive $15 per piece (a collection counts as one piece).

Poetry:

We accept flash fiction, short stories, memoirs, journalism, critical essays, personal essays, academic papers, drama, and translation. You may submit up to three pieces per submission. Follow the same formatting file guidelines as poetry.

Flash fiction should not exceed 750 words. Short stories must exceed 750 words. All other forms have no word limits.

For nonfiction prose, all information from secondary sources (not from your own original reporting) must be cited. We do not have a preference for a particular style guide; use what you are most comfortable with. For journalism, we ask you to paste any interview transcripts at the bottom of the document.

Please email us first if you want to submit another form not previously mentioned. Writers selected for flash fiction will receive $15 per piece. All other prose contributors will receive $25 per piece.
